Kasargod, Jan 6: Police have decided not to make public the pictures of suspected criminals of serious crimes in Kasargod considering that Kasargod is a politically and communally sensitive area. The murder of SDPI activist Abid here a few days ago is a testimony to it.
The opponents who searched Abid with the help of his photo that appeared in an online news website had killed him. An attempt on the life of J P Nagar resident Jyothish had occurred one and a half years ago. An accused called Abid was arrested in the case and his picture had appeared in online news. His suspected murderers got a clue to kill him in revenge. The group had taken a print of the picture of Abid which had appeared online.
The group had come to know that Abid was in a shop in Kasargod and had killed him. The police took the case seriously and have arrested seven suspects including main suspect Anangoor J P Colony resident Jyotish. However the investigating team has not made their pictures public to the media. The police had produced the suspects to the court without informing the media.
The police investigating team have already taken into custody seven people directly involved in the murder of Abid. The police team has decided to keep the names of suspects confidential. Police are hesitating to announce their names to prevent threats to their lives.
The arrested Jyotish was produced in Hosadurga court instead of Kasargod court. The investigating officials have said that as there were fears of friction when he was being taken to Kasargod court, he has been produced in Hosadurga court.
There were revenge killings in Kasargod during the last one and a half years. Several criminal incidents of communal unrest and political murders have been witnessed in Kasargod and the police have decided to
take preventive measures.
