Bengaluru, Jan 6: Five prominent colleges run by the catholics, including the Jesuits run St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, have been chosen as community colleges by the University grants commission.
The other catholic run colleges are: St Joseph’s Evening College, Bengaluru; Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru, St Philomena’s College, Mysuru and Teresian Community College, Mysuru, are among the 14 colleges in Karnataka selected by UGC as Community Colleges.
Announcing the UGC decision, which was communicated to the State Government, on conferring the distinction of selection as Community Colleges, Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande thanked the Union Human Resource Ministry and UGC for its gesture and indicated that it would help all the 14 colleges and the students to scale newer heights.
All the 14 colleges will be eligible for special grants from the UGC for running their respective institutions with the existing courses and also to start special professional skill development courses.
The 14 colleges to be selected by the UGC as Community Collleges are:
Government Arts & Science College, Karwar.
Government RC College of Commerce, Bengaluru.
Smt VHD Central Home Science College, Bengaluru.
BLDE Arts College, Tikota, Vijayapura.
JSS Arts, Commerce & Science College, Mysuru.
KSS Arts, Science & Commerce College and PG Centre, Gadag.
LalBahadur Arts, Science & SB Solabanna Shetty Commerce College, Sagar.
SmtBhagyalakshmiRatihalliRamappa Mahajan College, Mysuru.
Teresian Community College, Mysuru.
JSS Banashankari&ShanthakumarGubbi Commerce College, Vidyagiri, Dharwad.
