Mangaluru: Amjad Ali Khan to receive Alva's Virasat award

Mangaluru, Jan 5: 'Alva's Virasat-2015', the most awaited cultural extravaganza of Alva's Education Foundation will be held from January 8 to 11 at Alva's palace ground at Vidyagiri, said Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation.

Addressing a press meet here at press club on Monday January 5, Dr Mohan Alva said, "The Alva's Virasat National Award-2015 will be conferred on noted sarod player; Recipient of Padmashree and Padma Bhushan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan."

The first day of Alva's Virasat 2015 will begin at 5.15 pm with traditional procession welcoming the guests of honour to the dias. The inauguration of the programme will be done by Veerendra Hegde, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala.

Dr N Vinay Hegde, Chairman, NITTE Education Trust, will preside over the programme. B Ramanath Rai, minister of State for forests, ecology and environment, , Abhayachandra Jain, minister of State for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Services, U T Khader, minister for Health and Family Welfare, Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister of State for Urban development, A B Ibrahim, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, former minister K Amarnath Shetty, P Jayaram Bhat, CEO of Karnataka Bank, V N Krishna Kumar, CEO of Canara bank , MN Rajendra Kumar, SCDCC Bank Chairman, Suresh Bhandary of Mumbai and others will be the guests.

Fusion of classical and folk style, classical music and dance, folk songs and dance will be performed by the artists from world-wide. Rajasthan's classical and folk cultural team 'Desert Storm', Shri Rama Nataka Nikethan, special dance performance by 25 artists of Andhra Pradesh, Punjabi dance, Gujarathi dance, string struck musical instruments fusion, , Mysore Manjunath and team's "Naadaloka" will attract the audience.

Special programmes by Shivamani and team's 'Mahaleela' and musical night by visually impaired and special performance by physically challenged will also attract the audience.

On January 9 from 8.30 pm, the audience will get a chance to witness the spellbound performance of Kalaimamani Shivamani and his team.

On January 10, the music lovers will be fested with the performance "Ankhiyon Ke Zaaronkho Se" which will be performed by 30 visually challenged of Mumbai and the dance lovers will be facinated by the performance 'Miracles on Wheels' which will be presented by of physically challenged.

The special attractions of the Alva's Virasat 2015 on all the four days, Punjab's Army Band will be giving a special programme. To enhance the beauty of the event and sooth the eyes of the audience there will be fountains and flower show.

Jeevan Ram Sulya, Dr Padmanaba and Venugopal Shetty were present during the press meet.
