Kasargod, Jan 3: A person flying from Dubai on an Air India flight has been arrested with 9 kgs of gold at Kozhikode airport.
The arrested person is Aboobakar Sadat(30) a resident of Bangragudda in Kasargod.
Aboobakar had concealed the gold inside an emergency lamp and table fan. He had wrapped the gold in carbon paper.
The customs officials who acted on a tip off, checked the luggage carried by the arrested person to find the concealed gold. Upon interrogation, he revealed that he was only a carrier who was carrying the gold on behalf of a person from Dubai. He had to deliver the consignment to a person outside the Kozhikode airport. Custom officers said the arrested person has revealed that he was doing it for a remuneration of Rs 50,000.
The value of total siezed goods is estimated to be Rs 2.20 crore. The hidden gold had 21 pieces. Only last month, 10 kgs of gold was seized from a passenger who also belonged to Kasargod.
