Mangaluru, Dec 30: A man was killed after a speeding tipper lorry rammed into his bike at Ujjodi here on Tuesday December 30.
The deceased has been identified as Lathish Kumar (29) from Beeri, Kotekar. He was staying at Pandeshwar.
A bus plying from Pumpwell to Gorigudde had halted at Ujjodi, and Lathish was waiting on his bike behind the bus. At that moment, a tipper lorry belonging to Navayuga Engineering Company came speeding and hit Lathish, sandwiching him between the bus and and the tipper.
The tipper driver immediately fled from the spot. His vehicle which was in the neutral gear began to move backwards, dragging Lathish for about 100 metres. The people who were behind the tipper ran for their lives. The tipper finally fell into a roadside ditch and came to a stop. A parked car too was damaged in the acccident.
Lathish who was seriously injured was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead later.
Lathish was married and his wife is said to be pregnant. He was a marketing agent in a private firm, sources said.
A case has been registered in Mangaluru rural police station.
