Bengaluru, Dec 28: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Dr G Parameshwara accused the BJP of falsely branding the Congress party as "anti-Hindu" and damaging the secular credentials of the party.
Addressing party workers on the occasion of the Congress Foundation Day on Sunday, he said, "BJP is trying to paint the Congress as an anti-Hindu, which is totally false and baseless."
"The Congress is not anti-Hindu," he said and made it clear that the party has been consistently representing all sections and communities.
The Congress party has been upholding secular principles since its inception, he said.
Appealing to party workers to work as true ambassadors to counter the saffron party’s evil designs, he said that "party leaders have to speak more on development schemes launched by the State government."
Terming the performance of the Modi government "zero," the KPCC chief said the Union Government had scrapped the Planning Commission, which was envisioned by former Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Nehru.
''Unfortunately, the Modi regime has not come out with an alternative to replace the Planning Commission even after six months,’’ he said and wondered how a constitutional body is scrapped even without offering a viable alternative.
Dr Parameshwar expressed dismay over the slow progress of the membership drive undertaken by the party and instructed ministers and the senior leaders to actively involve themselves in the drive.
"When the BJP is going aggressively in enrolling members, Congress party’s performance is poor and it should be reversed,’’ he said.
A four or five member teams would be formed to tour the State for monitoring the membership drive, Dr Parameshwara said.
He said the KPCC has proposed to send some of the Ministers and legislators for a week-long training camp to understand the party’s ideologies and policies.
The Seva Dal wing of the party would organise the training programme.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, whoaddressed the patty workers, lashed out at the BJP for conspiring to vitiate communal harmony in the State.
"Stern action will be taken against any individuals/organisations trying to disturb the communal harmony,’’ he warned.
The BJP has been making all out efforts to convert the nation in to a ''Hindu Rashtra" by propagating the Hindutva ideology, he said and declared that the Congress party would not allow the dilution of the secular credentials of the country.
