Mangaluru, Dec 27: A woman died after a speeding bus hit a bike in front of a petrol bunk near the office of the tahsildar in Moodbidri here on Saturday December 27 afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Kusuma (37), wife of Srikanth, a resident of Kanakabettu, Mijar.
Srikanth and Kusuma were riding from Mijar to Moodbidri, when a speeding Reshma Express bus plying from Mangaluru to Moodbidri hit their bike from behind.
Kusuma who was riding pillion was thrown on to the road due to the impact of the accident, and sustained serious injuries to her head. She was rushed to hospital where she breathed her last.
Srikanth too was seriously injured in the accident and was unconcious for sometime, said the onlookers. He too was rushed to hospital.
The speeding bus was about to hit a car near Mijar a few minutes prior to the accident, said a car driver identified as Sudhakar Poonja.
Moodbidri police arrived at the spot and cleared the traffic. Additional policemen were deployed at the place.
