Documentary film fest explores urbanisation impact


Kolkata, Dec 17 (IANS): As many as 20 documentary films exploring the consequences of urbanisation are being screened at a three-day international film fest that began here Wednesday.

The 'Shehernama-International Documentary and Short Film Festival' (DocuFest) at Rotary Sadan and will showcase works of both young and experienced film makers and even students from development studies, organisers said in a statement.

Documentaries based on marginal communities residing in some of the world's biggest cities like Beijing, Manila and Kinshasa will be shown in addition to entries from Indian cities.

The documentaries revolve on pressing issues like waste management, recycling, labour problems, marginalisation of women in public, Hindu-Muslim riots etc.

Organised by Calcutta Samaritans, Action Aid and Films Division, highlights of the event include short films by Mira Nair, Anirban Dutta among others.
