Mangaluru, Dec 17: In a heart-rending incident, a baby girl was found abandoned by the roadside at Puttur, and brought to the city for treatment on Wednesday December 17.
The baby, said to be just abour two days old and weighing 2.3 kg, was abandoned on a block of stone by the roadside at Kabaka in Puttur, without any cloth to cover her body.
On the morning of December 17, a lady identified as Girija heard the baby wailing when she came out of her house to wash clothes. She then found the baby lying on the stone and took her inside.
Girija informed her son Dinesh about the baby, and he in turn called up his friend Ajay, who is working in the health department in Beltangady.
Speaking to daijiworld, Ajay said that as soon as Dinesh informed him about the abandoned baby, he called for 108 ambulance and took the infant to Puttur taluk hospital.
The doctors at the taluk hospital found that the baby had wound marks on her neck and one hand was fractured. On the doctors' advice, Girija, Dinesh and Ajay then brought the baby to Wenlock hospital in the city for advanced treatment.
Ajay expressed suspicion that attempts might have been made to kill the baby before being abandoned.
The baby has been put on ventilator in the neonatal intensive care unit of Wenlock pediatric care centre, it is learnt.
