Udupi: St Peter's Church, Pethri emerge winners at 'Nathal Sobhann'

Udupi, Dec 15: St Peter's Church, Pethri once again emerged winners of the second edition of ‘SEVA Spirit Nathal Sobhann 2014’, an Udupi diocese-level inter-parish Christmas carol singing, dance and skit contest, organized by the ICYM unit of Holy Family Church, Brahmavar here on Sunday December 14.

Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte won the second place and the third place was bagged by St Vincent De Paul Church, Katapadi, while St Ann’s Church, Thottam, Our Lady of Miracles Cathedral, Milagres, St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle won consolation prizes.

Prior to the event, Fr Joseph Dolphy Pais, Provincial, Holy Trinity Province of Capuchin Fathers, Karnataka, inaugurated the competition and wished all the participants good luck.

Dr Baptist Menezes, vicar general of Udupi diocese presided over the valedictory function. Fr Edwin D’Souza, director of ICYM Udupi diocese, Leslie Aroza, animator, ICYM Udupi diocese, Ravi Prakash Gonsalves, vice-president and Josephine Lewis, secretary of parish pastoral council, Celestine D’Almedia, animator of the unit, mega sponsors of the event from Seva Spirit, Santhosh Barnes, Stephen Lewis, Fr Antony Vaz, parish priest, Holy Family Church, Brahmavar, Fr Fredrick D’Souza, director of Kallianpur ICYM deanery, Joyson Banz, president and Rebecca Lewis, joint secretary of the unit were present.

Dr Baptist Menezes distributed the first prize of Rs 11,111, a trophy and certificates to the team from St Peter’s Church, Pethri while Fr Fredrick D’Souza handed over Rs 7,777, a trophy and certificates to the team from Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte who came second. Rs 3,333, a trophy and certificates were presented to the team from St Vincent De Paul Church, Katapadi.

Rs 1,234, a trophy and certificates were given to the consolation prize winners. Participation certificates and mementos were given to all the churches for taking part in the event.

Joseph Pinto, Mavis Pinto and Clarence Pinto were the judges of the competition.

Fr Edwin D’Souza, director ICYM Udupi diocese, announced the names of the winners.

Joyson Banz welcomed the guests and the participants while Rebecca Lewis delivered the vote of thanks.

Ria Lewis and Royan D’Almedia compered the entire event.
