Mangaluru, Dec 13: After months of hectic preparations, the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014 was off to a grand start at Sahyadri College premises in Adyar here on Friday December 12. The event has been organized by the Akhila Bharata Tulu Okutta to mark its 25th year, in collaboration with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.
Dharmasthala Dharmadikari D Veerendra Heggade and chief priest of Tirupati Venkataramana Temple, Ramana Dixith inaugurated the Vishwa Tuluvere Parba.
In his address, Ramana Dixith said, "Tulu language will survive, grow and develop till the sun and the moon last. The rich culture and language handed down to us by our ancestors should be protected and further developed. Vishwa Tuluvere is an occasion to celebrate and to protect the language and culture of this land for the future generation."
After blessing the gathering, the chief priest said, "People of Tulunadu are the devotees of Tirupati Thimappa. They have a practice of carrying ‘Hundi’ to Tirumala to offer it to Lord Venkatramana."
Dr D Veerendra Heggade who presided over the programme said, "Several hands have worked for the success of Vishwa Tulu Samelana which was held at Ujire in 2009. The present day Tuluvas have started to use the Tulu script in their wedding invitation cards. In contemporary scenario, speaking Tulu is become a matter of pride and duty of Tuluvas. Tulunadu is a blessed land. There are several temples throughout the Tulunadu. Several great personalities have been born in this sacred land. Tulunadu has witnessed several feats of achievements by various personalities. There are several educational institutions and people are into hotel and bank business in several parts of the world.
"People of Tulunadu have been working in various parts of world because of the quality of education they have acquired back home. Moreover, the people of Tulunadu have the quality of leadership”.
Showing concern over the growing communal clashes, he said, “From past few years, there have been certain incidents which have disturbed the communal harmony. Communal harmony is the strength of this district. If there is any problem, it should be dealt with tolerance, proper dialogue and discussion”.
He further informed that when Chief Minister attends Tuluparba, he would bring certain issues to the notice of CM such as Nethravathi river diversion, including Tulu language in 8th schedule and about Kambala.
“The efforts to include Tulu in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution is in the progress. The process will be completed when technical problems are solved with the help of experts and scholars”, he informed.
Mayor Mahabala Maarla and MLA Moideen Bhava also spoke on the occasion.
Health minister U T Khader, Hemavathi Heggade, ZP president Asha Thimappa Gowda, Dharmapal U Devadiga, Damodar Nisarga, Janaki Brahmavar, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Manjunath Bhandary and others were present.
Lensmen who won prizes in the Tulunadu photography competition organized by Tulu Sahitya Academy and Akhila Bharata Tulu Okkoota were awarded on the occasion. Among the winners was Daijiworld's Dayanand Kukkaje, who bagged prizes in two categories.
Prizes and medals were also distributed to students who participated in various games.
