Belagavi, Dec 11: Reports received from Belagavi said that local MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, who had recently crossed over to the Congress, blamed established district level Congress leaders of disregarding her status and marginalizing her. Explaining her predicament on the issue, she shed tears at the parliamentary party meeting held on Tuesday December 10 at Belagavi.
Shetty started speaking about her problems after seeking permission to speak about the injustice and humiliation she has been facing at the hands of district level Congress leaders. 'I had suggested for the appointment of a block Congress president in my constituency. As per my recommendation, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee appointed the person of my choice to this post. But Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, intervened to ensure that this appointment is cancelled and another person is brought to this post,' she explained, giving an example how she is being treated.
Shakuntala, in a choking voice, questioned as to how can she hold her head high in her constituency, if she faces this kind of humiliation. Sources added that Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr G Parameshwar, pacified her andpromised to assuage her feelings and set right the injustice.
