Mangaluru: Police official allegedly slapped during VHP protest?

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 8: In a shocking incident, a police official was allegedly slapped during the protest organized by VHP, Bajrang Dal and other like-minded outfits at Vamanjoor here on Monday December 8.

The protest was organized as part of the bandh called by VHP and Bajrang Dal against the attack on Datta Peetha pilgrims on the night of December 5.

Though the protest was initially peaceful, it soon turned chaotic after some of the protestors insisted on entering Ulaibettu where Section 144 was imposed. There was stone-pelting too, which the protestors claimed was done by the locals.

To control the mob, the police resorted to lathi charge. In the ensuing struggle between the police and the protestors, there was a lot of pushing and shoving, and consequently four policemen were injured.

Some of the eyewitnesses said that when one of the police personnel was about to arrest a main protestor, another leader of the group of protestors intervened, and in a fit of rage, allegedly slapped the police official.

The person reportedly apologized to the police official for his behaviour and the matter was settled then and there, sources said, probably to avoid further trouble.

However, when contacted, the police denied the incident and said that no one had slapped any police official.

Im not surprised that the matter has been 'settled' between them in true brotherly fashion. After all, Mangalore police- sangh parivar, bhai bhai. Imagine if the assaulter was from the minority community - then the whole locality would be arrested and all houses destroyed

Our Mangalore police are impotence!!! Who are these goons to forcefully shutting down the shops and whole business and attacking and damaging public/private property. police should take stern action against the miscreants who forcefully shutting down and pelting the stone and damaging the properties. Silent protest is acceptable and everybody have right to do so without harming anybody.

Unfortunate that the these radicalized groups didnt spare the police, and police have guts to take action against the culprits so are denying the incident. If it was a common man with no links to any organisation would the police have spared. Looks like the police department is only for the weaker section of the society. Sad situation in Mangalore.

I'm surprised the Commissioner didn't order raids on houses belonging to the majority community after this incident - all it took for them to barge into Muslim houses and assault women, was that they didn't 'cooperate' by 'coming out of their houses' when called by the police at midnight. Looks like the Mangalore police has different standards for dealing with different people

Police maintained LAW and Order in odd hours which deserves accolades from Mangaloreans. Now Booking cases against Tejswini Gowda who was imported from Bangalore to incite the communal clashes need to be probed and booked under stringent IPC sections. She is neither people's rep nor leader.Apart from that those who harmed public properties need to be forced to pay.Local RS/RSS/BD/SSS/BMS/MMS whatever, whose leaders gave BANDH asked to pay compensation for the damaged properties.

This slap also goes for FEKU & Rajnath Singh.

One thing is sure, the person who gave slap should avoid himself from coming into crime book. If he finds anywhere in police station, his is gone case.
