Mangaluru, Dec 4: A coastal security police boat, anchored near police quarters, caught fire at Tannirbhavi beach here on Thursday December 4 evening.
Sources said that the boat was used for patrolling the beach from 8 am to 2 pm. On Thursday, It left the Tannirbavi jetty at 8.15 am and returned at 2.30 pm.
After patrolling, the boat was brought ashore and anchored near the police quarters. The boat then caught fire.
Fishermen tried to douse the fire but were unable to do so.
Nearly 85 percent of the boat was charred. The loss incurred is not yet known.
The reason of the fire is said to be short circuit.
