Mangaluru, Dec 4: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday December 3 thwarted yet another attempt to smuggle gold by devious means.

The seized gold was brought in the form of silver paint-coated suitcase handle buckle holders, ladies handbag buckles and jeans trouser buttons, totally weighing 1033.000 grams, valued at Rs 27,27,120, all of which were kept in a trolley suitcase.

The suitcase containing the hidden gold was brought as checked-in baggage carried by a passenger, who arrived from Dubai.

The passenger has been identified as Abdul Gaffoor Kadappuram, aged about 44 years, resident of Kanhangad. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Thursday at about 8.10 hours by Jet Airways flight 9W531 from Dubai.

Further investigation is under progress.

    Why the customs people are harassing common man for a few tolas of gold when the politicians are the biggest smugglers and looters? Do the customs people check the politicians shirts, pants, buckles and underwear or only common man's?

    The alert officers led by Shri Santhosh and his deputy shri Senthil Murugan and their team of officers should be applauded for their sincere efforts and vigilance on such people and making seizures of gold and other contraband articles. jai ho Mangalore Customs and jai ho Commissioner Shri Purushottam who has encouraged these officers.

    Almost every other day you hear this news about smuggling gold only from Dubai. I was just wondering where this gold goes and the culprits? Our prisons are filled with these dubai smugglers?????

    Always in this forum, whenever gold smuggling case is busted, comments pore in condemning people from Kasaragod, Kerala etc. Why we have to generalise all keralites?
    There is a striking similarity with ALL smugglers being caught in Mangalore airport.

    If i mention the similarity, Daiji will not publish my comment coz it might indirectly hurt the sentiments of one section of people.

    So let us stop generalising this smuggling disease to all keralites.

    Please dont blame in your comment as all Kasaragod Mallus, see the names first and judge before commenting and look for who is involving in smuggling gold most of the time in this field .
    As long as gold is not haram for particular people, this trade/crime will going to continue as usual for these people

    Just wondering if these keralites have brains or now. They has created a total disaster for other passengers of mlore also. If I had owned jet airways, then would have put an option to stop these keralites to board the aircraft and would have declined their booking.

If Possible in leading newspapers and TV channels from the country they came from. Also an open letter with details to all of their relatives and friends...

    Why they are selling our country name. The people at Gulf won't read news about seizures at Airport ?

    Once they come to know in clear that it is not possible to do it further, they will not enterprise it again.
