Mangaluru, Dec 4: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday December 3 thwarted yet another attempt to smuggle gold by devious means.
The seized gold was brought in the form of silver paint-coated suitcase handle buckle holders, ladies handbag buckles and jeans trouser buttons, totally weighing 1033.000 grams, valued at Rs 27,27,120, all of which were kept in a trolley suitcase.
The suitcase containing the hidden gold was brought as checked-in baggage carried by a passenger, who arrived from Dubai.
The passenger has been identified as Abdul Gaffoor Kadappuram, aged about 44 years, resident of Kanhangad. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Thursday at about 8.10 hours by Jet Airways flight 9W531 from Dubai.
Further investigation is under progress.
