Udupi, Dec 1: It is learnt that former district Congress committee president and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, M A Gafoor, has asked the post of chairman of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation offered to him, to be given to someone else. At a time when there has been widespread discontentment among the Congress cadres about either the posts offered to them or not being offered any posts, Gafoor has sought to sacrifice a post that came to him.
Gafoor has long been a loyal activist and leader of Congress party in the district, and is close to several central leaders including Oscar Fernandes. He now is concentrating on party organization, people-centric activities, election campaigning etc. His supporters rightly expected him to bag a post this time around.
Gafoor admitted that he had asked the government to choose some else for the post, as he said in his opinion, the post has to go to fishermen leaders. There are fishermen leaders within the party, who have been aspiring for this post. He added that while he is thankful to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president for offering this post, he genuinely feels he is not fit for the post and hence has sacrificed it in favour of a fishermen's leader.
