Mangaluru, Nov 30: A colourful procession was held from Kolya Narayana Guru temple to Kallapu Unity hall grounds as part of the CPI(M)’s 21st Ullal zonal conference.

"A third alternative should be created by strengthening CPI (M) with the participation of the working class," said K R Sriyan, CPI(M) senior leader from Dakshina Kannada and state committee member at Kolya Narayana Guru hall after inaugurating the conference.

"The Left parties lost in the last election. But capitalists are spreading false news about CPI(M), saying the party has become weak. CPI (M) never went away from struggle for the poor. In the light of the defeat, now we should think about making ourselves more relevant. We will discuss about it in the national conference," Sriyan added.

"The Congress and BJP, who ruled us all these years after independence embraced capitalism. The only progress achieved was the increase in the wealth of the politicians from these two parties. No problems of the poor were ever properly addressed. Unemployment, prise rise, agriculture problems, industrial unrest and slavery in the foreign policies are the gifts of these capitalist parties. UPA with the support of Left parties in its first stint introduced some pro poor policies. But in its second stint, UPA lost track with heavy corruption. The BJP will repeat the same mistakes with more absolute power. Railway, banking, insurance and petroleum are all left at the mercy of private industrialists. The problems of the poor will worsen under BJP," Sriyan continued.

"Minorities are being attacked after BJP resumed power. Trinamool Congress is attacking CPI (M) workers in West Bengal. CPI (M) will fight back the oppression as it fought the emergency and fascist type oppression in the past. CPI (M) should become strong in order to fight the enemies," Sriyan concluded.

CPI (M) district committee member, K Yadav Shetty and welcome committee honourary president, Ramesh Mendon spoke on the occasion. Ullal zonal conference welcome committee member Arun Kumar presided.

Farmer leader Parameshwara Shetty hoisted the flag before the inauguration.

Rajiv Mendon, Vital Sriyan, Padmavathi Shetty, Ramachandra Babukatte, Jayanth Naik, Babu Pilar were present.
