Mangaluru: 6th Global Konkani Music Awards - Nominees announced

Mangaluru, Nov 24: Mandd Sobhann, an organization working for the promotion of Konkani language, music and culture, has announced the top three nominees in six categories for its 6th Global Konkani Music Awards for the year 2013.


The nominees are:

Best Singer Female - Carol Sequeira, Meera Crasta, Shilpa Cutinha

Best Singer Male - Nithin Koottungal, Prajoth D'Sa, Robin Sequeira

Best Composer - Joel Pereira, Llyod Rego, Roshan D'Souza

Best Lyricist - Irene D'Souza, Lloyd Rego, Walter Menezes

Best Music Arranger - Elick Vaz, Roshan D'Souza, Vanil Veigas

Best Music Album - Olavo Rodrigues ('Love You Goa'), Prajoth D'Sa ('Uddi Uddi'), Roshan and Lloyd ('Chandare')


The winner in each category will be announced on the day of the awards. The top 3 nominees in all the categories will be honoured. Each award consists of Rs 25,000 cash prize, the coveted title and a trophy.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held on December 21 (Sunday) at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar at 6 pm.

Renowned Hindi and Marathi cine and TV star Varsha Usgaonker, who is also a Konkani singer, will be the chief guest. She will also render a Konkani song on the occasion.

A special attraction will be performances by emerging cine star Ester Noronha, accompanied by Roshan, Richy, Theo, Melwyn and Patson. Nach Sobhann troupe will also perform scintiallting dances.

The award ceremony will be compered by award winning playwright Arun Raj Rodrigues and popular singer and Daijiworld 24x7 TV anchor Lavita Lobo.

    Mandd Sobhann is an organization working for the promotion of Konkani language, music and culture. I appreciate that so much and I believe much more should be done to promote Konkani language and culture.
    I know some people from Mangalore who have been living in Germany for a long time and there is no doubt it is their language and culture and even the music where they have a meaning and know to what they belong to. And it is their faith in Jesus, going to church.
    I know how important English is in a globalised world and everyone should have a high command of English. But Konkani language is the mother tongue and it combines people all over the world who hail from Mangalore. The top three nominees in six categories for its 6th Global Konkani Music Awards for the year 2013 have been announced. That is wonderful. I love to listen to Konkani music because I like this music very much.

    There really are no words that could truly convey the beauty of this CD.
