Mangaluru: Elopement case - Activists mob police station, allege bias

Mohan Kuthar
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 24: A large gathering of activists from various Hindu organizations as well as some BJP leaders gathered in front of Ullal police station on Sunday November 23, urging the police to release people they had taken into custody relating to the disappearance of a girl student from Kotekar near here. The activists said that those confined to the police station were innocents.

The 19-year-old girl named Insha had married a boy named Bharatraj, a bus conductor from Ira village. Following a complaint from the girl's father alleging kidnapping, the police had summoned Someshwar gram panchayat member, Lata, and her husband, who reportedly provided support for the said marriage. The police also taken into custody parents of some youth, who had reportedly helped Bharatraj to take the girl with him.

BJP leaders and Hindu activists demanded for the release of people arrested by the police. They said the police action in taking into possession the mother and grandmother of a youth named Rahul, who has been accused of supporting the said elopment defies logic.

The Hindu activists said that the Ullal police had failed to detect the persons involved with several incidents in Ullal during the last some months, but had acted with extraordinary zeal relating to this case. They pointed out that the police had not followed the above yardstick when M C Bava from Chembugudde, accused of involvement with illegal cattle trafficking and running slaughterhouse. When Bava escaped, the police had not taken his family members into custody, they said. They expressed anger at the policy of the police in having different policies for people belonging to minorities and Hindus.

The activists were particularly angry at the police for making the mother and grandmother of one of the accused, Rahul, to spend long time inside the police station, in spite of the fact that both of them are suffering from ill health. They alleged that the police are unnecessarily harassing innocent people.

Several BJP leaders and people's representatives held discussions with police for about three hours. It is said that the police promised them to release the women who were taken into custody relating to the said case by evening. When BJP and Hindu outfit leaders came out after discussions, the activists urged them to tell the police in no uncertain terms that innocent people have to be released forthwith. Some of them even engaged in verbal altercation with the police.

Meanwhile, the girl left behind a note to her parents stating that she had married the boy out of her own will as she loved him, and that no one had helped or put pressure on her.

Love is blind i agree. But it shouldn't be so blind that you hurt your parents and dont respect their feelings .My question is to those (BD/KFD or any others if there is) . You all do same thing nothing different. For example this case some people support this and they even helped them to get married.OK thats a good thing. But do the same when its vice versa .Dont create nuisance in the city or held protest creating trouble for others.Im not supporting such act where as all girls should know that there are guys of your same cast, dont break the peace in city and create a tension between muslim and hindu brothers which half almost damaged due to some political reasons.Remember EVERYON HAS TO LEAVE THIS WORLD AND GO SO TILL YOU ARE HERE LIVE IN PEACE AND HELP ONE ANOTHER .

Please stop the attitude of leaning on western type of living. Because fragmentation of family and resultant, lack of control on children in their social behavior has resulting shameful raping many women, girls and kids. Adding fire to this is more focus given to reporting of rape cases by media rather than on punishment to the culprits.

Indians have got to be one of the most immature humans on earth. For everything we blame western culture as if our culture is the best in the world. I dont see communal voilence in the western country nor I see stupid cast system over there. Yeah there is racism over there but thats different matter.

Whats wrong with two people who are in love getting married? Humans are not cattle to arrange a breeding so that you can get a good breed. That`s what a arranged marriage is - a ive breeding program.

I dont know about the religious punishment.my knowledge is limited. Guess, some learned hindhu might answer to that. i rather believe in following law of the land. why that question by the way? here, both are adults and not married. So legally, they have the right to get marry. Islamic definition does not arise here, if the girl decided to leave it and Indian constitution has given her rights to follow or unfollow any religion which she wishes to. Real test of any religion is when the people have the the free will to follow or leave the religion. That is why i said, apostasy has to be decriminalized.

    Dear Bro Syed Kazi, Mangalore
Kindly define 'adultry' here in this case??
    For your info
    As per Vedas/manusmriti
There are many verses in Vedas that are used during Shuddi Sanskar as well as a chapter in Manu Smriti dedicated to this.
Punishments are for those who are intentional perpetrators of crime, who conduct crime despite all efforts to dissuade them. Even today to punish someone for adultery, one will have to first punish the media and government for allowing nonsense to pollute the minds and importance /prominence given to the role of character in education.
Though the punishments need to change from time to time but ideally as told by Manu, any man or woman, if found indulged in adultery and thus in cheating his/her wife/husband and children, deserves harshest punishments including death. However for death punishment, consent of his/her wife/husband and children is must. But no doubt in giving him/her severest of punishment such that no other can even think of cheating his/her wife/husband and children in future.
If someone who repents then Manu suggests a system of Prayashchit. And it is said that the best Prayashchit is to feel guilty and resolve to never commit such mistake again, and then start afresh.
Kindly go through 6th chapter of Satyarth Prakash and find references for the same.

Dear Shashi Shetty, Santhoor. pleased to read your commentThat girl is a human being for gods sake.......
If you trust / believe in God,then you should follow HIS rules. In Islam only husband and wife can have physical contacts. If the physical contact is with other persons, then it is adultery. For your information, In Islam adultery is punishable by STONING TO DEATH. there is no other leniency. I do not know about your religion, Will be glad if you share your opinion. Few days back one rapist in Mangalore was sentenced to LIFE.
One can understand the pain, only if happens in his family. All outsiders are barking only for their own agenda..
If she is a human being, she should live and behave like humans and not like ANIMALS which eat all dirty things on the road.

In almost all cases, it is the girl who is accused of betraying family and community!! Its the patriarchal mindset which is being hurt here!! nothing do with any particular religion!! stop viewing girls as some properties which have to be protected. If we india was like western or any developed countries, where family or society pressure is not there, religion would have been a non issue in society!

In India every religious community feels a bit embarrassed when one of its girls, choose other community boy to marry. Often the girls family will cry foul for some reason or the other. This is a stigma in our society and one has to live with it and it will continue for another 25years for sure.

The real problem however is that, there is a kind of backers for the boy. It once used to be close friends, now they are politically associated organizations. This is really really dangerous. When politics enter into the rivalry from private affair between the families shape as religious rivalry.
It is natural for vested interest to take keen interest on it, as these incidents can spiral into riots.

I believe the UPA's communal bill was a act in right direction to curb the violence that was politically afflicted on innocents.
Unfortunately, BJP played a dirty game to sabotage and to show it as anti-hindu act.

Well, any family would feel bad or humiliated when their loved ones one day walk out with totally unknown stranger. But, this a life and everyone have to deal with it. well, if parents and community can convince the girl and bring her back and gurantee her a better life it must be ok. but, we must detest from using a non living comparison to a human being. it is too demeaning.

The chapter is closed as the girl marries the person she loved. The authorities should not interfere in personal affairs they should mind their own business.
Just assume if the similar incident happens with a boy from minority community and girl from majority, the same people who gathered in front of the police station, with a request to release the people, would have done the agitation in front of police station demanding the arrest of the boy and the people who helped. Why this double standard!
South Canara District was very peaceful but not anymore. All most every day these Jobless goons have some kind of protests, moral policing, and public gathering spitting venom on the communities other than theirs, instigating the people for violence saying Hinduism is in danger.
Is really Hinduism is in danger? It’s a biggest joke to say Hinduism in danger where maximum representation in Parliament, Assembly, Police force, Military, Judiciary, government jobs, Educational Institutions etc. and still we feel insecure!
The conversion of a few hundred, or a few thousand, or even a few hundred thousand Hindus to Islam or Christianity or Buddhism will bring about the collapse of an ancient, complex and vibrant religion such as Hinduism? Hinduism has withstood conversion on a far more massive scale in the past. It is most unlikely that conversion on that kind of scale will ever take place in the future. The intolerant and vengeful acts do far greater harm to Hinduism from within. If Hinduism is in danger today, the main source of that danger may lie within and not from outside.
So stop hatred, live and let others to live peacefully.

we can understand the feelings/sentiments/emotions of both the families. there is no action required from any third parties honestly. All third parties joining their hands with their communities nothing but their own gain. The real pain for the parents of the lovebirds only. There is no compulsion in Islam. Allah bless guidance whoever he wills and curse whoever he wish. even if millions of muslim girls embraces the faith of their choice, Islam will prevail forever, because this is the religion Allah has chosen for his slaves. if someone thinks that this kind of action will cause any harm to Islam, that's only a illusion. We don't want to see any kind of crime in the name of religion. please muslim brothers and sisters. Let us strengthen please strengthen our emaan, may Allah protect us, Ameen.

We have thousands of Hindu gals struggling to get married without money... No one to care for them. No money to pay dowry.. Why you guys cant support them and marry..? Why you want to force muslim girls in the name of Kesari Jihad and create communal tensions. Your job in the society is becoming creation of tensions.. You are not really interested to improve our hindu society.... So sad of you guys!!!

Sensible comment.....The boys who marry the girls from other community should be taken to task......
Recently one Muslim guy ran away with a girl of our community, and his house was set on fire. Why the same logic is not applied here, so it is nothing but double standards.
Now Rajesh is slowly understanding how the Moral police is playing the havoc in coastal districts.
Mr Rajesh, just in the morning you commented that people are waiting to start communal riots and blame MODI for that. It is good that you have realized the TRUTH.

Recently, I have been seeing in Mangalore, some of the well built drivers and conductors with their cheerful and friendly nature and talk, have captivated the hearts of a many Hindu, Christian and Muslim girls.
Decisions of some girls seems irrational to me, since one I know, a Christian girl coming from a well to do family with MA in Economics married a driver of other religion, who is not even on a permanent job.

    Santan...
With the drivers it's the way they 'change gears' and with the conductors it's the way 'they whistle' is what does the trick!
    Research has proved this.
Double line degree holders ,FRCS doctors, ME, PHD wallahas and all can never do this! CA's can only count! All no match for drivers and conductors when it comes to 'wooing and pataoing'! Discovery of the Century!

Welcome, we were missing you for some time. In the company bus where I was working there was a board "Do not talk to the driver when bus is in motion." But, now while going from Kinnigoli to Mangalore, when the buses are not full, these drivers and conductors are busy talking with girls, women and men. I have to agree with what you said, yes they are experts in enchanting and delighting the people they want.

When an adult indulges in a crime or an anti social activity, or elopement, what is the fault or role of family members. They themselves are concerned and worried with such incidents. Every individual is an independent citizen and is accountable for his actions. I don't understand the logic behind harassing the innocent family members for an adult son's or daughter's fault. It is not a family firm that indulged in some ghotala and all the family members are subjected for enquiry.

Can't our politicians understand this simple logic and interfere so as to help the innocent family members. In case something happens to those old age people out of the discomfort caused by the police, who will be held responsible.

This kind of agitation and attracting media attention for no reason makes life more difficult for the newly married couple they are already in. If the couple is already in love with each other and no evil is involved in their marriage and conversion, let them have their way and wish them good luck!

If a girl from minority communities marries a boy from a majority community it is freeing them from schackles of foreign influence and making..them nationalist....Then it is not matantara or forced conversion or "Love kesari"...If a muslim or christian boy marries a girl from majority community it becomes love Jihad or duped conversion(Recently a boy had to change his religion to marry the girl form chaddis pressure...Boys too are not safe)..If this happens then girls are used for antisocial activities like terrorism and smuggling after duping them....This is freaking reason given by the chaddis...
"Hum kare to balatkaar or tum kare to chamatkar"...
These type of controversial marriage happens under blessing of certain "Invader Samaj"
I dont understand chaddi concept ...
Let the girl lead her own life as her wish....Why are you interfering in inter-community martial affair....???Either way you blame muslims....

    RIGHT POYEEEEEEE...

The issue was taken a logical end.But on law point of view a complaint was registered by parent of bride as abduction/kidnap...So police examining the complaint where 2-3 people directly or indirectly involved in the case. Both are got married but they must show to ULLAL POLICE STATION.Then only this case will be closed. In the process BDs and Sanghis gathering in front of police station gives a room to convert this as Communal issue which is very unfortunate.Let Kanoon take it's own course and obstructing police duty will make this case more fragile.

First of all when girl wrote a note that she has gone out on her own will why cops detain innocent people, marrying some one whom you love is not a crime, nor supporting love, both the parties should understand this in both cases! but last pic says that this wedding was for a reason, if it was pure love they could get married in court which is above all religion! in this case it looks either guy gain some thing or girl took revenge against a community.. Good luck to newly wedded couple...
