Mangaluru: 8-year-old girl falls off two-wheeler, dies

Mangaluru, Nov 23: A tragic accident took the life of an 8-year-old girl at Alake here on the evening of Sunday November 23.

The deceased has been identified as Rachana Pai, daughter of Ramananda Pai, a resident of Mannagudda.

It is said that Ramananda, his wife and Rachana were riding in their two-wheeler, when all of a sudden the vehicle skid.

Rachana, who was sitting pillion with her mother, lost balance and fell on the road. A lorry that was passing by hit her before she could be saved.

A critically injured Rachana was rushed to a private hospital where she breathed her last.

Barke police registered a case.

    You are 101% correct. This road gets patchworks only during Navaratri days. No one bother about it during remaining time. One can see all the motorists busy with zigzag driving in this road to avoid holes.....

    May her Soul rest in peace! But the carelessness and don't care attitude shown to this road by the city corporation irrespective of Congress or BJP is unpardonable. This is one of the busiest roads in Mangalore totally neglected. There are a number of lorries carrying rotten fish leaking fish oil running with impunity. This is the main cause of two wheelers skidding. One must see the way this road is concretized and no where in the world you will find such shabby work. It is the best example how not to concretize a road. May be the corporation wants to preserve it for posterity for future generations to see. A huge amount is sanctioned for this road about a year back and still nothing is happening. The rumor is that the contract is awarded to a higher bidder and the lower bidder got angry has approached the court.
    The road widening people have measured the road at least 4 times just to save an apartment by an MLC. Nobody knows the authenticity of this. Even if so the cost of the same work might have doubled and who will be responsible for this and how to penalize these corrupt guys. God alone knows!And to please the Gods during Navaratri procession a thin layer of a substance resembling tar is applied as patch work and needless to say it goes off once the procession passes!Accidents are caused they just do not happen!!

    These two wheelers are not safe for anyone.
    A person has to be 100% careful for any objects on road, stones, displaced interlocks, road edges, humps, bumps, potholes, minor repairs.
    Of course these are advantages of the Indian roads which are 'state of art'
    If so, is not good to go walking or hire a rickshaw to be safer.
    I wouldn't advise an enemy to buy a two wheeler.

    really sad incident, dear parents a humble request - don't make sit your kid back on the two wheeler, innocent kids some time they sleep, if possible make them sit front or if u take them by bus, rick or by walk at least u can save them.

    Very sad incident.
    Recently, I objected my 8 years old daughter riding on back seat of scooter and I had to face tough resistance from the family saying why you are so scared and so many kids ride on scooter and bike. There is nothing wrong etc. But, I feel we are very careless many times or we do not assess the risks. Also, I have seen children sitting on front seat of car and they dont realize how dangerous it is when air balloon is burst.

    Very sad. But we parents are to blame for the loss. We parents have to be careful. We should see that pillion riders wear helmets, avoid children on the bikes meant for 2. Sometimes there will be 4 on the bike. Avoid driving in rain. I have seen children at the back of the mother or father, not holding on to the rider, busy being distracted on the road, and one small hit, the child will go flying. and then we weep.

    hence parents, safety is in your hands. no need for police, or others.

    please take care of your family. we do not know when it strikes.

    Tragic news. May Almighty give courage to bear the loss of loved one. May her Soul rest in peace. Big vehicle pilots (???) are totally blind they don’t care for other road user like two wheelers. NO road discipline to maintain safe gap between two vehicles. Whom to blame? NO fear of law. If it is in Gulf, no excuse at all. The responsible has top pay for it in jail.

    In Alake-Mannagudda Road even the concrete roads have deep trench and very steep borders, because of which many two wheeler riders have slipped and fallen. Few days back even my scooter had slipped and fallen near Durga Mahal junction in Mannagudda because of the steep border of concrete road but luckily that day there was no big vehicle coming fast from opposite direction or from behind and hence I was saved.

    Here is a typical case where the police should come into the picture. It is a common site in Mangalore to see babies in arms being carried by the pillion rider putting the lives of innocent children to danger.

    Hope the traffic police make a serious note of these kind of accidents and ensure that only one pillion rider accompanies the bike driver.

    My sympathies go to the parents of the child who lost her life as a result of the skid.

    mangalore alke, kambala mannagudda durgamahal roads all risky spots with city busses, trucks which is rush area near gokarnanath temple and from kudroli side. traffic police rquired near ullal nursing home and near main enterance of kudroli temple. our road conditions also bad which lost the life of 8 year old girl. trucksmust be prohibitted in this road which are from fishing ice factory place,

    Blind truck drivers they cannot see the people and small vehicle.How carelessly they are driving when small vehicles and two wheelers also in the same road and same lane. Worse driving system in the world we find in India only

    But, I think it is time for every one to ponder over these two wheeler accidents, is it worthwhile to ride those at all.

    Of course, companies manufacturing two wheelers wont see a problem with humans dying except their own profits.
