Beltangady, Nov 23: The 82nd literary convention held on the occasion of Lakshadeepotsava at Amritavarshini Hall of Dharmasthala on Saturday November 22 was inaugurated by state science and technology minister, S R Patil. In addition to Dr Heggade, well-known litterateur, Siddhalinga Pattanshetty, Dr Somashekhar Bangaluru, P K Rajashekhar from Mysore, and Dharanidevi Malagatti were present. Minister Abhaychandra Jain, also was a participant.
Patil said that anything written becomes literature when it creates a sense of satisfaction in the minds of listeners. He felt that organizing literary conferences helps in creating social awareness. He said that literature and society have a strong bond between them, and writers have the responsibility of leading people back to the path of righteousness when society starts straying from right path. He warned people against blindly following westernized life style and thinking process. He hailed Dr Heggade for pioneering various schemes which are meant to financially empower families, uplift the downtrodden, and helping people to improve their hygiene and standard of living.
Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, opined that literature gets created when the language in which expressions are made creates a feeling of comfort and solace in the minds of readers and listeners. He felt that success of writer can be measured by the way it touches the hearts of the readers.
On the occasion, Dr Heggade felicitated Pattanshetty, who presided over the conference. Addressing the gathering, Pattanshetty asked the people to grow a sense of affection, respect, and bond with Kannada literature. He asserted the importance of politeness in one's life. 'We have no other go but to use computers. But we should take care to ensure that we do not turn into computers or machines. We should learn to appreciate beauty of nature. Instead of money and power, we should value good virtues,' he felt.
Prof S Prabhakar, D Surendra Kumar, D Harshendra Kumar, Amit Kumar, and D Shreyas Kumar, were present. On the occasion, a dance programme by Mayuri Upadhya Bangalore was held. Thousands of devotees were present at the Gourimaru Katte festival, which is traditionally held on this day every year.
On Saturday, as many as 3,232 artistes from all over the state, including members of various troupes of musical instruments, offered services to Lord Manjunatheshwara without expecting any monetary gratification for these services. Groups of volunteers from different parts of the state got engaged in various services all through the Laksha Deepotsava programme, with a sense of devotion and fulfillment.
