Mangalore, Nov 14: A colourful Children's Day programme was held at St Gerosa English Higher Primary School on Nov 14.
Little children were thoroughly entertained by their teachers through humorous skits, dances, songs and the like. Prizes were distributed among the students for their excellence in various fields.
The highlight of the event was the felicitation to those students who won laurels at the National Level IT examination conducted by the Sarvodaya Computers IT – Kids Children Techno Group, Bangalore, in July 2006. The School secured 100 per cent results in the talent quest.
Smriti Sudhakar of Std VII, Shreya M of Std IV, and Sri Vidya of Std VII secured the District, Taluk, and Taluk Level ranks respectively, while the School was awarded the II Place in the Best School Category.
Speaking on the occasion, Sr Anandi, the Headmistress of the School, spoke about the relevance of the day and its significance in the context of the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
She said that children of today are the citizens and leaders of tomorrow and expressed her desire to see one of the students as the future Nehru. Sr Anandi said that inspite of this being a celebration time, there are many children who do not get to enjoy the day for reasons attributing to poverty, child labour etc.
Aid should be extended to such children, expressed Sr Anandi, adding that sponsoring such poor children for their education would be of great help.
