Mangalore, Nov 10: Mangaloreans can be proud of their own Fr Pius Fernandes SJ, principal of De Nobili College, Dhanbad, who received the the National Teachers Award- 2005 at the hands of president A P J Kalam. It was given in recognition of his immense contribution to the cause of education in the Eastern Region.
The function was held at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi recently. Union human resources minister Arjun Singh was present at the occasion. The president personally congratulated Fr Pius and was proud to refer to himself as a Jesuit product.
Fr Pius hails from near Mangalore and has been serving the Jamshedpur Jesuit province for the last 30 years.
