Army has done justice in Kashmir: Parrikar

Panaji, Nov 14 (IANS): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar Friday said the army had done justice by awarding life sentence to five soldiers for a fake gun battle in Kashmir that killed three civilians.

"It goes to show that the army punishes anyone who does not go by procedure," Parrikar told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Vasco, 40 km from Panaji.

The former Goa chief minister said the army had done justice in the case.

On Thursday, the army sentenced to life five soldiers, including two officers, for killing three Kashmiri civilians in Macchil in Kupwara in 2010 after branding them terrorists.

Those sentenced were Colonel Dinesh Pathania, Captain Upendra Singh and soldiers Davender, Lakhmi and Arun Kumar.
