Puttur, Nov 7: An Italian who was living in a tent near guest houses at Dharmasthala near here was arrested by Beltangady police inspector Subhashchandra as per the directions given by Puttur ASP Dr Harsha for overstaying in the country on Monday November 6.
The arrested has been identified as Lawrence Saliv (37), son of Michael Saliv of Cagliyara of Sardinia in Italy. Sources said that he is a tourist and has been touring India for quite long. He was living in a tent at Dharmasthala for some days now. But the locals who did not know anything about him, informed the police.
The police directed by ASP Dr Harsha and led by CI Subhaschandra arrested Lawrence. During investigation it was known that he was not accused of any criminal offence. However, his visa had expired in the month of February and eversince he had not renewed it. During the investigation he also failed to produce his passport before the police. So the police are expected to produce him before the court on Tuesday.
