Melbourne, Nov 10 (IANS): South African all-rounder J.P. Duminy has been withdrawn from the upcoming five-match One-Day International (ODI) Series against Australia due to a chronic patella tendinopathy to his left knee.
Farhaan Behardien, who is currently in Australia for the T20 International (T20I) series, will replace Duminy in the squad. Marchant de Lange has also been added to the squad to bolster the pace-bowling resources, a Cricket Australia (CA) release said Monday.
Commenting on Duminy’s injury, Proteas team manager, Mohammed Moosajee said: "JP aggravated his long-standing knee injury during the current T20 series against Australia. This is the same injury that plagued him during the Tri-series in Zimbabwe and caused him to miss the Champions League T20.
"The recommendation from the medical committee is that he returns back to South Africa for a six-week period of rest and rehabilitation, particularly ahead of a busy season at home and the ICC World Cup in three months."
The ODI squad will convene in Perth Monday, ahead of the first ODI at the WACA Friday.
