ANOC approves creation of world beach games

Bangkok, Nov 9 (IANS): The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) general assembly has approved the creation of the world beach games, but the hosting city is yet to be decided.

The two-day ANOC general assembly concluded here Saturday, approved a number of resolutions, including the creation of the world beach games, according to an ANOC press release, reports Xinhua.

Many cities have shown interest in holding the beach games, ANOC president Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said at a press conference following the conclusion of the general assembly.

Sheikh Ahmad indicated that working out criteria, rules and requirements of the hosting city are some of the things that should be done now.

"Finding the hosting city will be the second priority," he said.

He said earlier that 2017 would be a good year to host the first world beach games and the upcoming Asian Beach Games in Phuket of Thailand would serve as a good opportunity to evaluate the sports technicality, broadcasting and other details.

Other resolutions approved at the ANOC general assembly included unanimous support for Olympic Agenda 2020, as well as seven amendments to the ANOC Constitution, "most importantly the stipulation that every Continental Association is obliged to elect at least one female member among its representatives on the ANOC Executive Council," the release said.
