Bengaluru, Nov 8: Yet another remark on rape has been made. This time the insensitive remark was uttered by former deputy chief minister and leader of the opposition in Vidhana Parishad K S Eshwarappa on Friday November 7.
“I do not think the home minister or the chief minister considers everyone as their own. Maybe when their own daughters are raped they might act differently,” is what Eshwarappa said.
“They are not treating the victims like their daughters. The society will not tolerate rapes. How do you deal with this insensitive government? I do not know how to make them realize. The CM and home minister should give importance to women safety,” Eshwarappa added.
Shortly after this insensitive statement of the senior BJP minister, chief minister Siddaramaiah hit back and said, “Eshwarappa is an uncultured man. His words show his attitude and culture. He should remember that he is a senior leader before opening his mouth like this. A person's speech should befit his position and dignity.”
State BJP chief Prahlad Joshi speaking on this issue said, “BJP does not accept a statement like this. I know the situation in Karnataka. But Eshwarappa should not have talked like this. The daughters of CM and the home minister are like our own sisters. I feel sorry for this statement. ”
Subsequently, the BJP leader fell into an eye of a storm as he turned personal on rapes as the Congress workers launched a protest outside Eshwarappa’s residences in Bengaluru and Shivamogga.
Meanwhile other political parties outside the state also criticized Eshwarappa’s remarks. DMK leader TKS Elangovan said, “These are all comments out of anger & desperation, we shouldn't give importance to this.”
The social activist Abha Singh reacted sharply over Eshwarappa's rape remark and said,
“Rape is a serious offence, it should not be politicised by the politicians, I condemn the statement.”
The remark came at a time when Bengaluru is reeling from the spate of sexual assaults in schools.
Cong protest against KSE remarks
Shimoga, Nov 8 (DHNS): Members of District Youth Congress Committee protested in front of BJP leader K S Eshwarappa’s residence at Malleshwara Nagar also known as Gundappa Shed here on Friday condemning his insensitive remarks against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George.
Eshwarappa had reportedly said in Bangalore that the home minister and the chief minister would not take any action even if their daughters are raped.
The protesters urged the BJP leader to withdraw his remarks and apologise to the chief minister and the home minister in public. He should not have used such a language being in a responsible position. It shows the culture of the BJP leaders, they said.
Police rushed to the spot and arrested 30 activists of Youth Congress and released them later.
