Bengaluru, Nov 6: Cases of rape have seen an alarming increase in the state of late. The entire state is livid at the casual approach owned by the government in addressing this issue. Accusing the government of woefully failing to curb cases of rape and bringing the guilty to book, BJP leaders staged protest in the city on Wednesday November 5.
BJP activists, led by former chief ministers, B S Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shettar, state BJP president, Prahlad Joshi, and MP, Shobha Karandlaje, held a huge protest. The BJP leaders, addressing the protesters, gave a severe tongue-lashing to the government for its lackadaisical approach.
The leaders including women activists began their march from the BJP office towards the official residence of the chief minister with the aim of laying seize to it. However, the policemen stopped them near Nehru Circle, Sheshadripuram, and took them into custody.
During this period, tension mounted between women BJP activists and BJP, as there were allegations that police personnel behaved rudely and improperly with MP, Shobha Karandlaje. Women activists then rolled down on the road and raised slogans against the police.
Shobha, speaking later, expressed anger at the home minister and police for their stubborn attitude and improper conduct. City police commissioner, M N Reddy, tendered apology to Shobha relating to the episode.
