Goa Congress appoints Simon D'Silva as convenor of NRI Cell

Panaji, Nov 5: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, considering the Goan brothers, sisters and Goan families who are spread across the globe in different parts of the world, has decided to form a special NRI (Non Resident Indians) Cell under the convenership of Simon D’Silva, who is the president of Goan Welfare association, Doha Qatar. D’Silva is also the recipient of prestigious Global Goans Community Service Leadership award presented by the Government of Goa.

GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro has appointed D’Silva as convenor for the overseas Goans and he has been assigned with the immediate responsibility to conduct party membership by enrolling maximum Goans residing abroad, to begin with the Gulf (GCC) countries like Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and United Arab Emirates will be covered.

There is a sizeable population of Goans residing abroad for work, who contribute significantly to the state economy as well as national economy by enhancing our foreign reserves, these Goans though placed very far away in different corners of the world are deeply concerned of Goas overall development and welfare and are always involved for the same through various programs and activities, identifying the need to reach out to this section and involve them in the decision making process for our state and in an sincere effort to lessen the gap between the overseas Goans and their motherland Shri. Faleiro has decided to involve through the process of overseas party membership, more and more Goans who reside abroad for work purpose but have keen interest in social and political happening back home.

In the future the GPCC plans to expand the base of the NRI Cell and the Departments by giving representation to more Goans residing in various countries all over the world.
