Kundapur, Nov 3: “In1961- 1962 Maraswamy Padukone bridge could not be built due to the outbreak of Indo China war. Now it has been decided to complete it. Foundation stone laying for the same will be done very soon.” said former central minister Oscar Fernandes.

Oscar was speaking after laying foundation stone for the bridge connecting Kannada Kudru in Hemmady village in Kundapur taluk.

“Bridges not only connect people physically but also emotionally. The role of common people in the development of villages is remarkable. Byndoor should move forward with the help of development.” Oscar said.

Vinaya Kumar Sorake, the district in charge minister of Udupi district said “History was created during Oscar Fernandes' stint in UPA government as minister when the region had received Rs.12000 crores in various grants. The projects namely, Shiradi ghat road, Agumbe ghat road and Suratkal to Goa four lane were flagged off during his time.”

Sorake also praised MLA Gopal Poojary for the development in Byndoor.

Gopal Poojary who delivered the presidential address said that during the era of getting publicity without doing anything , a proper publicity is required for genuine work done. The Maraswamy Padukone bridge work will begin soon in December and Byndoor will become taluk soon.

Blossom Fernandes. Fr Anil D'Souza, Alphonse D'Lima Gangolli, Patrick Crasta Kananda Kudru, Anil Karnelio Trasi, Zilla Panchayat member Anatha Movadi, KPCC secretary M A Gafur, former Z P president Raju S Poojary, Karnataka state road development board officer Rajashekarappa were present on the dias.

Rajesh Karanth, former taluk panchayat president Raju Devadiga, Boncy Rebello, Alexander Rebello, Narayana Poojary and contractor Kiran Philip were felicitated .

Chandra K Hemamdy said the prayer. Hemamdy Gram Panchayat Sharat Kumar Shetty welcomed. Gerald Crasta read out the introduction. Chandra Naik proposed vote of thanks and Rajesh Kundapura compered.

Well done Mr. Oscar, I believe it's too late now to expose that you and your party doing something for the people of Udupi and Mangalore. you are most and oldest High profile politician from this place and we waited to develop our city's airport untill now. Please look at beside Kerala, have 3 airport's with international status and you still hold hand and roaming with your beautiful hand bag.Next election in Karnataka dont think that congress will show any discipline for your good work. You had time to prove but you proved lady luck only. that is in your personal life but not in public.

Better late than never. This would have done at least 30 years before at least last generation benefited. Most of the Kudrus people migrated to town area due to non availability of roads. None of the elected representatives present or fast done justice to the people of Udupi & Mangalore.

CONGRESS is just a name of a party, So is BJP, But the people who run the party make difference.
Today, we can clearly see difference in BJP leadership.

We elected Oscar with record number of votes, he took our votes and sat in Delhi and forgot us. Now he got some time due to pressure from HICOMMAND.

Surely he one of the person for the fate of Congress today.

He talks as if it is 1963.

It is a very good gesture and a dream of kannada kudru people to come true by laying foundation stone for a connecting bridge. Like this there are so many places where people are struggling to connect cities and for the daily life. For example behind sayadri college adyar, mangaluru the people of pavoor Uliya Island since last more than 100 years living and still there is no connecting bridge, what a pathetic struggle of those people and children every day crossing the river through a small boat. And the government officers were bothers about these poor people. Now the health minister U.T.Khardar has promised a bridge but when it will come into force is the question. Hope like kannada kudru Pavoor Uliya islalnd too will get a bridge soon.

BJP is busy building 4 lane roads by felting precious trees to capture votes. At least Congress has been doing the best in connecting the rural areas the difficulties of which only the rural people know. BJP has been just blaming congress and wasting their time in power.

Good news for the people. In the meantime, as an Indian, (please note, no politics intended) I would like, if Anandiben Patel can make some arrangement for school going children who swim the river even today to attend school. Till a permanent bridge is built, govt should make some arrangement of free boat service to the students. Free boat service was available to students in DK even 50 to 60 years back. Govt can build floating or suspension bridge in the meantime or at least build a small school in their village, which should not be a problem. We would love to see the children attending school, the way other Indian students attend.
