The arrested accused have been identified as Sharatraj (22), son of the late Dayanand from Naykapu Anantapura, and his friend, Dinesh (23) from Kudreppady. The police, it is said, also succeeded in tracing the knife used for the murder and taking it into possession. The police now want to lead the arrested persons to the spot of murder and put together pieces of information and reconstruct events leading to the above murder.
Two persons, K Bharatraj alias Bharat (25) from Kudreppady and C H Mithun Kumar (20) from Darbettadka have already been taken into custody and remanded to judicial custody relating to the said murder. It is gathered that three more youth have been taken into custody by the police on the allegation of helping the accused after the murder. One of them is said to be the driver of a car in which the accused fled to Mangaluru after the murder, and two others who provided shelter to the murder-accused there.
The police have already confiscated two motor bikes said to have been used by the murderers as well as the car which transported them to Mangaluru.
The police claim that immediately after the murder, the accused had sought help from several of their friends and contacts, but most of them dithered from meeting their request. Therefore, they escaped to Mangaluru in a car and visited Dharmasthala from there. Based on information they got about the movement of the accused, they were nabbed by the police, it is learnt.
The operations were led by deputy superintendent of police, T P Ranjith, and Kumble circle inspector, K P Suresh Babu.
