Kolar, Oct 31: The call for district bandh given by various organizations on Thursday October 30 received mixed response. Some miscreants made use of this opportunity to pelt stones at vehicles in which window glasses of three government buses and a private bus were shattered.
The bandh call was given against the sudden transfer of deputy commissioner of the district, D K Ravi, who had become immensely popular because of people-friendly initiatives.
A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus moving out of the town and two buses coming into the town were damaged after they were rained with stones in the outskirts of the town. A private bus coming from Betamangala was hit near Hanuman Kalyana Mantap.
While there was good response to the bandh call in the district headquarters and Mulbagal town, mixed response was witnessed at Bangarpet, Malur, and Kolar Gold Fields. In the meanwhile, several organizations have called for Bangarpet bandh today.
Shopkeepers and hotelliers in the town downed shutters on their own, while banks, schools, colleges and some government offices did not function. Vehicular traffic was thin. Protesters held demonstrations and bike rallies in important circles, and even mobbed the residence of MP, K H Muniyappa. They burnt the effigy of chief minister, Siddaramaiah, at Court Circle. They squatted in front of the office of the deputy commissioner, and urged him not to hand over charge to anyone.
District deputy commissioner, D K Ravi, met the protesters, and requested them to drop their protests if they had love, respect, and affection for him. He said he would be happy if they send him off from the district with a happy heart.
