Mangalore, Oct 30: The ethnic conflict among two Christian sects came to fore on Wednesday October 29 here at Derebail citing a conversion drive by a Christian sect called Believers.
Rupert (23), a Roman Catholic who was forced out of the house by his own family for not following the belief of Believers was attacked on Wednesday at Derebail by his own family led by pastor Ronold Watson. He currently lives in a shed near his father’s house.
“I refused to convert into a Believer, a sect that does not believe in church and father culture popularly followed by Catholic and Protestants,” Rupert said.
Pastor Ronold
Rupert was thrown out of the house by his father Ciprian Quadros three years back for his son’s reluctance to join the group of Believers. “I went to my father to ask him to fix the problem spotted in water supply. During this time, Pastor who was at my father’s house, launched an attack for remaining with Catholics,” he lamented.
He was attacked by a group of twelve in his father’s house and even his own sisters and father joined hands in the attack according to Rupert. On the other hand, the Believers practice has been prevailing at a house at Derebail and secret religious meeting were occurring in the same place.
Parakash Pinto, a distant cousin of Rupert told that Ronold Watson, a Christian from Believers’ sect converted from Hinduism performs conversion rituals. “The group led by Watson frequently visited Odissa and Bihar to brainwash and convert poor non-believers to the sect. Watson was operating from Mulky." said Pinto.
The victim is being treated at a private hospital.
A case has been registered in Kavoor police station on the alleged attack.
It is learnt that his family and others dwelling in the said house at Derebail have fled from the place.
