Mangalore: Akashvani goes digital – scales new heights in terms of quality

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 29: It is the turn of the Akashvani Kendra here to keep date with changing technologies and provide to its listeners a new experience in tune with highest standards in terms of quality. After Bangalore and Mysore Akashvani Kendras in the state, Mangalore Kendra has been digitalized, giving it the much needed boost to enable it to face competition and come up trumps.

Music studio, control room, audition room, and speech studio have been digitalized. This in effect, has resulted into transformation of broadcasting quality by a few notches. It is learnt that digitalization in Akashvani Kendra here came into effect from September 25 this year. With this, the Akashvani Kendra, digitalization of which had been under consideration since the last some years, has achieved another milestone.

The station here has undergone sea change at a total approximate cost of Rs 20 lac. With the digitalization of control room and three stages of broadcasting tower, broadcast quality has improved. This has resulted in high quality experience for listeners in far off places living in the three districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasargod. In the past, there had been complaints of improper sound quality in respect of programmes broadcast by this station from far flung areas.

The programmes of the Akashvani Kendra here serve about 32 lac people areas spread over the coastal and neighbouring districts. It is learnt that now, the people who want to hear specific songs from chosen films under 'Korike' programme of this Akashvani Kendra can send SMSes instead of writing letters as in the past. This facility will be available from November 1 onwards. They can now send SMS in English to 56060 in the form of MNGHP (space) first line of the song... name of the singer... name of the listener and name of their place. It is learnt that film songs based on SMSes get broadcast between 10 and 11 am on Wednesdays and Fridays every week from November 1 onwards.
