Mangalore : Manasa Rehabilitation Centre bags Pingara Rajyotsava award

Mangalore, Oct 28: 10th 'Pingara Rajyotsava Award 2014' will be conferred to 'Manasa Rehabilitation Centre' a Catholic Sabha Mangalore-Udupi Pradesh(R) project based in Pambur, Shankakpura in Udupi district.

Addressing the gathering, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino revealed this year's  awardee. A press meet was organised by Raymond D'Cunha, Pingara editor-in-chief  on Tuesday October 28, at Hotel Woodlands, Mangalore.

He said, "Manasa Rehabilitation Centre is treating differently abled kids.Training is also given to them so that they become perfect in future. For instance some of them are tailors, mechanics and some them are working in photo studios and printing press."










"These kids have shone in Olympics as they have won gold, silver and bronze in 2007 and 2013 Olympics. This shows that the Manasa Rehabilitation Centre can take the differently abled kids to top," he added.

He also said that 160 students are being trained.

"Along with education, they are learning to make candles, books, greetings, plastic bags, decorational stuffs. This centre is run jointly by Udupi and Mangalore Catholic Sabha." he said.

Pingara Rajyotsava Award 2014 ceremony will be held on Tuesday November 11, 2014 at Don Bosco Hall.

Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore will present the award. Al Haj Thwaqa Ahmed Moulavi Kaziyatakam will be the chief guest. Minister Abhaychandra Jain, MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D'Souza and Dr M Mohan Alva will be present for the programme. Valenica parish priest Fr James D'Souza will inaugurate the programme.

"28 applications had come and we chose Manasa Rehabilitation Centre and they deserve the award," said Roy Castelino, president of award selection committee.

Harikrishna Punaroor (joint president), Fr William Menezes (co-ordinator), Rohan Monteiro, Dr B G Suvarna, Eliyas Fernandes, C G Pinto, Srikar Prabhu and Ramakrishna R were the members of selection commitee.

Catholic Sabha Udupi president Elroy Kiran Crasta and Mangalore president Flavy D'Souza were given a floral welcome by Harikrishna Punaroor.

Raymond D'Cunha welcomed the guests and said that the Pingara Rajyotsava Award will not contain cash prizes. "Instead of cash prize we are going to promote the Manasa Rehabilitation Centre for one year and we will get donors for the centre," he said.
