Bangalore, Oct 28: The remark made by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Parameshwar, in an interview to a Kannada daily, that the general public have suspicion that the Congress government too is indulging in corruption, has not gone too well with some of the party leaders.
Reacting to this comment, rural development minister, H K Patil, said that Dr G Parameshwar was not right in criticizing the government run by his own party. 'This is not a healthy development,' he remarked.
Patil said that such remarks unnecessarily give rise to confusion in the minds of the people. 'As soon as allegations about Arkavaty Layout De-notification issue surfaced, the chief minister ordered judicial inquiry. In a democratic set up, what more can you expect? This prompt action has even silenced the opposition,' Patil added. He felt that the state president of the party would have passed the above comment out of lack of information.
Congress leader, B K Chandrashekhar, expressed surprise at the corruption remark made by party president. 'What message does the state Congress party president want to convey to grass-root level workers of the party, through comments that are not backed by any specific proof?' he questioned.
Parameshwar, however, said that his comments were restricted to the finance department's functioning. He pointed out that he has never criticized chief minister, Siddaramaiah. He said that the government's 'Anna Bhagya' scheme is good, but wanted defects in its implementation to be addressed
