Puttur, Oct 26: The doctors here in the taluk have decided to go on strike for half a day on Thursday October 26 condemning the alleged assault on a fellow doctor in a private hospital here.
This was announced in a joint statement of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Puttur unit and Doctors' Forum. They condemned the assault on Dr Raveendra in Dhanvantari Hospital a couple of days ago.
One Khatijamma was rushed to Dhanvantari Hospital on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest. However, she died later in the hospital without responding to medication. But a group which entered a hospital after sometime alleged that she had died owing to doctor's negligence. The protest immediately turned violent and the group damaged the windows and glasses.
It was also alleged that Dr Raveendra who was on duty was assaulted by Latif during this mayhem. The hospital administration as well as the doctor said that despite providing best possible treatment, Khatijamma had died and there was no lapse of duty on their part.
This attack was widely criticized by the medical community of the taluk. Accordingly, both the premier associations of the doctors have now decided to go on strike on Thursday protesting the entire episode.
