Turner to lead Cricket Australia XI against South Africa

Melbourne, Oct 24 (IANS): Ashton Turner will skipper the Cricket Australia (CA) XI against the South African side in a Twenty20 contest to be played Nov 2 at the North Sydney Oval.

The game will serve as a tour match ahead of the three-match T20 International series between the two sides beginning at the Adelaide Oval Nov 5.

“South Africa has been one of the most successful international teams in recent years so it will be a great experience for this CA XI which includes some of the most exciting young cricketers in the country," CA's national talent manager Greg Chappell said.

“This will be a great leadership opportunity for captain Ashton Turner, who has been a very well regarded player at Under-19 international level. He was a part of the National Performance Squad (NPS) that performed admirably in the mid-year series against Australia A, South Africa A and India A."

Troy Cooley will be the head coach of the side with Graeme Hick as his assistant. Chappell will accompany the side as the team manager.

The CA XI squad: Ashton Turner (Captain), James Bazley, Jake Doran, Sebastian Gotch, Ben McDermott, James Muirhead, Joel Paris, James Peirson, Clive Rose, Matthew Short, Kelvin Smith, Timm Van der Gugten.
