Udupi, Oct 24: Souharda Samiti, Catholic Sabha, Saint Francis Xavier church organized Sauharda Deepavali celebration on October 22, at
Shatamanottara Suvarna Sambrama auditorium, Hindu school, Melpete, Udyavar here in the city.
Addressing the gathering, renowned thinker, K Paniraj said, "Religious harmony is not only possible through messages and songs, but should be in our daily life." He opined that he was afraid while observing the present situation and thought that no existence of concepts like religion, faith, sympathy would exist in future.
"Deepavali, Yugadi and Sankranti are agriculture motivating festivals, that are celebrated in a community. Now-a-days, agriculture based communities are decreasing, fests are losing its real value because of modern phenomena; so we have to celebrate all practices for bonding strong relationships, only then religious harmony will be possible," he added.
Rev Dr Lesli D’souza, parish priest of St John’s Church, Shankarpur said, "Deepavali means a transition from dark to light; the fest unites every religion under one roof. But now-a-days fests are becoming commercial." He added that he wished that people share and develop love in their hearts and not jealously.
Speaking on the occasion, Sayyed Ismail opined, "All religions prescribe love between relationships, but people have misunderstood the actual theme and this can cause distrust. Relationships will help to remove blindness from the minds of people."
Famous radio Jockey, RJ Errol Gonsalves was felicitated on the occasion.
‘Tulynada Vaibhava,’ a dance show directed by Yajneshwar Acharya, was performed by the students of Hindu Higher Primary School.
Rev Dr Rock D’souza of St Francis Xavier Church presented the keynote address.
Fr Steevan D'souza, RP Monis president of Catholic Sabha, Abdul Rahemani, Muslim Father, Vijay Kumar Udyavar, panchayat president, Ganesh Kumar, taluk panchayat vice president, Udyavar Nagesh Kumar, compiler of Hindu School and others were present.
