Mangalore: Customs officers seize gold worth at Rs 6,13,560

Mangalore, Oct 23: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport seized 224.750 grams of gold, valued at Rs 6,13,560, here on Wednesday, October 22.

The gold was in the form of silver colour paint coated wires concealed in the beadings portion around the borders and edges of a black coloured laptop bag carried by a passenger, who arrived from Dubai.

The passenger Shafeeq Chakli (25), is a resident of Mogar House, Mogralputhur, Kasargod. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on October 22 at 7.30 by Jet Airways flight No 9W513 from Dubai.

Further investigation is under progress.

    I am a Delhi based Lawyer expertize in the field of Customs. As per my knowledge, this guy can't be arrested by Customs now as the value of the goods is Rs.6,13,560/- only. His seized 224.750 grams of gold would be surely released to him later on the payment of duty, redemption fine and penalty after the issuance of the SCN to him by Customs.
