Udupi: Karnataka Minister of Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake has distributed grant in aid for unemployed youth belonging to backward class, backward tribe and minorities.
He has distributed an amount of rupees two lacs each to 25 youth belonging to scheduled caste, 10 youth belonging to scheduled tribe and 36 youth belonging to backward class and minorities. The total amount distributed to 71 beneficiaries amounts to Rs 1 crore and 42 lacs.
A separate committee will be formed for the purpose and as per the decision of the committee, the selected beneficiaries will be provided with tourist taxis.
Minister Sorake said that the beneficiaries should repay the loan and the interest to the bank from time to time. The facility should not be misused. The beneficiaries should provide good service to the tourists and others acting in good faith and bring a good name for the department of tourism and the district.
He said that the district has received maximum aid this time. However it is not possible to distribute vehicles to all the beneficiaries immediately as the bank loan process is delayed. But 80% of the beneficiaries will be distributed with the vehicle keys, he said.
56 applications were received from scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. 35 beneficiaries are selected out of them. 21 applicants will be added to the next list. Similarly 52 applications were received from backward class and minority candidates. 36 out of them are selected for grant in aid. 16 out of them are carried over to the next list.
The selection of beneficiaries is conducted by committee president, members, district in charge minister, district MLAs and people representatives. The amount will be handed over to the candidates who produce all the records asked for on the specified day.
As regards disbursement of amount to the remaining candidates in the list, it will be done as per the directives of the district in charge minister, the selection will be conducted based on the decision of people representatives, committee president and members.
