Karkala, Oct 18: Even as preparations are progressing under the guidance of Mahamastabhisheka Samiti chaired by Dr D Veerendra Heggade for the periodical anointment of Lord Bahubali statue with various objects as ordained in religious scriptures, a preliminary consultative meeting with the presence of district level officials from different departments was held on Friday October 17. The meeting held discussions relating to different arrangements needed to be held for the Mahamastabhisheka, which is scheduled to be held during January next year.
The Mahamastakabhisheka, which refers to bathing of the statue of Bahubali with different items by devotees once every 12 years, is a sacred ceremony revered by people of all the communities, even though Jains take part in the programme in a special way. The meeting was presided by Dr Veerendra Heggade. Addressing the meeting, minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, promised to put in maximum efforts to ensure that the government gives its nod for release of grants needed for this function.
He also instructed committees formed under different departments to work in tandem by holding mutual discussions. Sorake also said he will try to post a special officer on behalf of the district administration for coordinating the work. 32 different committees have been formed for the purpose.
Dr Heggade said that the Mahamastakabhisheka, like on previous occasions, should be held with the participation of the government. He said this procedure will help peace and contentment to settle in the society, besides giving a fillip to righteousness among the populace.
Working president of the committee, Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, delivered introductory address. He informed that on this occasion, various works worth Rs 35 crore have been proposed to be conducted within the municipal limits. Kumar added that the occasion will be celebrated like a state-level festival.
District deputy commissioner, S S Pattanshetty, district superintendent of police, Rajendra Prasad, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Kanagavalli, Kundapur subdivisional officer, Charulata, municipal president, Rehamat N Sheikh, taluk panchayat president, Vijayakumari, and several others were present.
