Cuba to field top track, field stars at Veracruz Games

Havana, Oct 15 (IANS): Cuba will field its top track and field stars at the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games (CACG) to be held Nov 14 to 30 in Veracruz, Mexico.

Cuba's national athletics commission said Tuesday that the 69-member delegation includes pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, who was an Olympic silver medallist and indoor world champion, and hammer thrower Yipsi Moreno, two-time Olympic silver medallist, reports Xinhua.

Cuba hopes to win at least 18 gold medals in track and field events.

Cuba has collected 287 gold medals from previous Central American and Caribbean Games, far ahead of the 134 golds for second-placed Mexico.

The island nation did not participate in the 2010 edition of the regional event in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
