Mangalore, Oct 14: Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo visited Government Lady Goshen Hospital to review the functioning and condition of patients here on Tuesday October 14.

After his review in the hospital J R Lobo, speaking to the media said, "The hospital is functioning better in comparison to other hospitals in the state. It also functions as a role model to other hospitals. The capacity of the hospital is 260 beds, but presently there are only 100 beds. As the portion of hospital is demolished to construct a new building, few beds are put in the corridors. The new building was to be inaugurated in December, but will be postponed to June due technical reasons. Permission for a component separation center has already been obtained and will be inaugurated by former union minister Veerappa Moily. There is also a proposal for Phoenix Children's New Born Intensive Care Unit which will be soon sanctioned by the government.

Lobo also said that the maternal, infant and mortality is very less comparatively other parts of the state; ratio of infant mortality was 5:1000 while and maternal mortality was 2:1000. He added that there was a shortage of staff, especially D group staff; however at presently the existing staff are managing.

"200 male attendants can stay in dormitory which during the day can be occupied by female attendants. Blood bank also has sufficient blood. People from various places like Naravi, Belthangady and Kerala also come here because of the good facilities," he concuded.

Medical Superintendent Dr Shakunthala, corporator Poornima, T K Sudhir and others were present on the occasion.
