Bantwal: Thieves decamp with gold, cash from house

Mangalore, Oct 12: An unidentified gang broke open the front door of a house in Melkar, Bantwal taluk, and stole five sovereigns of gold and Rs 8,000 on Sunday October 12.

The theft occurred in the house of Aziz, owner of P B Earthmovers, located at Narahari Parvatha, Melkar, Bantwal, close to the national highway.

The incident happened while Aziz had gone for his morning walk at 5 am and his wife had gone to the hospital to meet a relative.

Learning that there was nobody at home, the thieves allegedly entered the house by breaking the lock of the front door and looted the wardrobe, said family sources.

Bantwal circle inspector Belliyappa, S I Nanda Kumar, canine squad, and fingerprint experts conducted an investigation.

No official complaint was lodged by Aziz or his family members until Sunday evening.
