Mangalore, Oct 11: A meeting of Gram Panchayat workers was organized at taluk panchayat, Mangalore demanding to consider grama panchayat workers as permanent employees as zilla panchayat. The meet was held on Saturday October 11 in the city.
Addressing the gathering, Maruti Manpade, president, Karnataka State Grama Panchayat Workers’ Union said, "Mangalore has the highest tax colletion but the salary and services provided to gram panchayat workers including bill collectors, clerks, computer operators and watermen are minimum. They are deprived of pension schemes, medical benefits and so on.
"The bill collectors under gram panchayath are working for a salary of Rs 1500; hence it must be increased so that they can lead their life better. If the demands are not met by the government, let us build a strong union and protest at the office of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat in coming days till our demands are met by the Union and State governments."
Gram Panchayat Workers of Mangalore, Bantwal, Suliya, Belthangady and Puttur were present during the meet.
