Kundapur, Oct 8: "During those days when education was restricted to upper class people, the work of writing Ramayana in 24,000 verses by a lower class person is a great achievement" said Dinesh Hegde, Lecturer in Basrooru Sharada College.
He was giving a lecture during the birth anniversary programme of Maharshi Valmiki held under the aegis of Backward class welfare department, Taluk Panchayat, Kundapur, department of revenue and the department of social welfare held at the taluk panchayat hall on October 8, 2014.
"Ratnakar, who was a hunter becomes Valmiki after mental enlightenment. He commands respect even though born in a lower level community. He is a living example that we can achieve anything by hard work." he added.
Kalavathi U S, president of town municipal council who inaugurated the programme spoke saying that Valmiki who was born in lower level
community has now become an inspiration to all the backward class people. Taluk panchayat president Bhaskar Billava garlanded the
picture of Valmiki.
Kundapur sub division assistant commissioner Charulatha Somal, taluk panchayat social justice committee president R Navinchandra Shetty, zilla panchayat member Ganapathi Sriyan and taluk panchayat executive Gopala Shetty were present. Tahsildar Gayathri Nayak welcomed the gathering.
