Lightening in Udupi district, losses reported

Udupi, Oct 7: Heavy losses due to lightning have been reported throughout the district.

In lightning occurrences mainly in Udupi and Kundapur, many houses and transformers have been damaged. A 110 KV transformer was completely burnt in Manipal. Damages to the transformers in Kumbhashi, Malyadi, Tekkatte, Vakvadi and Koteshwara were also reported. There were disruptions in electricity supply in all these areas for hours.

The affected houses in Udupi and Kundapur have been identified. In Maravanthe, a house belonging to M Mohandas Hebbar, manager at DCC bank was the most affected with a loss amounting to Rs 80,000. The occupants of the house were saved from the disaster as they had gone to Hubli. The houses of M M Krishnamurthy, Ratnakar Hebbar and Vinayaka Rao were also affected due to the lightning.

In Aroor J P Nagar, the house of Gopala Nayka who lived with his wife and two daughters was affected. The lightening destroyed television and electrical appliances.
