Belthangady, Oct 5: Police have arrested the thieves involved in the theft of Sri Parshwanath Basadi of Kajekar at Belthangady.
The theft had taken place on the night of August 18 this year.
The arrested are Srinivasa (41) from Melanthabettu, Sandeep (25) and Chandrashekar (22) from Maddadka and Jayarama (37) from Kuvettu.
Police have managed to find the stolen items which were kept hidden in the bushes on the banks of Polali River. They also seized a Maruti Omni and an auto rickshaw used for the theft.
Two pairs of brass Gaggara, a brass bell, a golden Karimani chain from the idol of Goddess Padmavathi, a gold chain from the statue of the bull and some other brass items worth Rs. 50,000 were reported to have been stolen.
The thieves had broken the locks of seven rooms to steal the items.
Sri Parshwanath Basadi had been targeted several times by thieves in the past, yielding no result for them except in the present theft.
The Basadi is managed by the family of Kakyapadavu Ratnakumar Ariga from Uli village. Punjalkatte station officer Latesh Kumar had investigated the case and also led the operation of nabbing the culprits.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
